Cadmium electroplating is a strong and very adaptable metallic coating that is most typically used in aircraft manufacturing and is the favored coating for salt water environments. It works well as either the final surface or as a paint base. Today, Cadmium still tends to fall under some scrutiny because of the environmental concerns with the toxicity of the metal, but still remains a very resourceful application.

Some benefits of cadmium plating are:

  • Excellent electrical conductivity
  • Improved solderability
  • Retain original appearance longer
  • Enhances corrosion resistance (when chromate conversion coating is applied)
