Copper electroplating is the process of which a coating of copper is deposited on the object that is being plated by method of electric current. Copper plating is most commonly used in electrical wiring, as it’s an exceptional conductor of electricity.

There are three processes that are available depending on the desired finish of the object being plated: Alkaline, Acid and Mildly Alkaline. In the complex bath process various other chemicals can be added to the solution, which can help adjust the preferred level of brightness and or surface finish.

Some benefits of this plating are:

  • High electrical conductivity
  • Ductility
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Solderability
  • Lower cost

Copper electroplating raises more challenges than that of other metals. Copper does not easily plate onto other surfaces and thus requires an initial nickel-strike base coat to assist in the bonding process.
