Passivation is accomplished by immersing stainless steel in a Nitric or Citric acid bath. The acid removes tramp iron and surface contaminants, which helps to clean and re-oxidize the metal. This post fabrication process provides for a more passive and corrosion resistant surface.

Some benefits of this process are:

  • Improved corrosion resistance
  • Reduced cost
  • Helps in sterilization
  • Mild chemical protection

Not only is passivation used in post fabrication, but also it is helpful to restore damaged stainless steel surfaces by removing the surface iron that is exposed from mechanical use and/or chemical cleaners. After complete the surface retains its natural finish. The acid treatment provides a lower cost when associated with other corrosion resistant processes.

We offer many Types of Passivate to process a wide range of different Stainless Steel Alloys.
